Default Replacement fuel tank on '84 240 doesn't fit

My 1984 244 GL was leaking fuel from multiple spots on the fuel tank parting line. The mechanic's supplier didn't carry a replacement tank so I ordered one on-line ("1979 - 1989 Volvo 244 Dorman Fuel Tank Fuel Tank Price: $257.50 Qty: 1 Part #: RB576950") and dropped it off with them. A month passes. Finally I called them today to find out what the deal is. "Oh, didn't we call you? The tank is the right shape but the mounting holes don't line up." Grrr.

At this point I am beyond the 21-day return window from ThePartsBin. Plus, I have no idea whether a tank with the holes in the correct place for my particular car is even manufactured. (There are two aftermarket brands, Dorman and Spectra, and from the on-line pictures the mounting holes are in the same place.) So I am looking for advice on what to do next.
[ul][*] Beg and plead with ThePartsBin and try to swap the Dorman for the Spectra, and cross my fingers on that being any different.[*] Tell the mechanics to drill new mounting holes in the tank flange (and again cross my fingers that it won't leak!)
[/ul]
I'd guess that drilling holes in the flange is probably pretty safe, but I've no experience in this area.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Rob
