Hey guys I have a Volvo 240 and was wondering if I should replace my water pump when I replace my timing belt heres the kit I was looking at

It depends. When was the water pump replaced last? I replace mine about every other timing belt change.

 

the factory said every other change. most folks replace it when its starting to seep out the weephole and the belt is due.

 

Well the thing is this is a new to me Volvo I bought from a dealer who bought it at an auction. So I was going to do the belt, water pump, oil, filter, air filter, motor mounts, rear bushings, vaccum hoses. I want to "zero" the car any other things I can go ahead and replace?

well, check the front end for play, steering tie rods, ball joints. if the rear end isn't creaking, I wouldn't even bother to do the rear bushings. check the driveshaft center bushing, that one fails more oftne than the others. also, if you're doing the motor mount, do the transmission mount too, thats like the '3rd' motor mount effectively.

vacuum hoses is something I only do if they look cracked. ditto, radiator hoses, only if they look funky. be sure to check the heater hoses between the back of the engine and the firewall, too, those often get neglected.

you don't mention the year, but 1982 or 83 to mid year 1987 were subject to funky 'biodegradable' wiring harnesses.

 

mine is a 1993, also should I go ahead and do the tensioner aswell I was going to do that anyways since I have to replace a belt that lord knows when it was last changed

 

tensioner yes and the other drive belts could be replaced too if they are old.. they are cheap and you have to take them all off anyway to do the t-belt.
