Hi everyone
I have a 1983 Volvo 240 saloon
It has the 2127cc engine with a carburetor.

It's been sat a while and I'm getting no fuel to the engine when I turn to position 2 I get a relay click but no pump.

I have seen on YouTube there is an intank pump and a high pressure pump but I can't find the high pressure pump on my car (is the high pressure pump only for fuel injection models?)
I'm fairly sure there is little to no fuel in the tank at the moment I need to get some, would there be a safety for the pump when the tank is dry? All the fuses seem fine.Where is best to get a good pump?

It is in need of a full restoration but it is low in my list and since it is supposed to have an lsd I plan on using it as a field car until I get round to it.

Also as soon as I put the key I to the ignition it starts beeping at me but doesn't flash the seat belt lights my other 240 doesn't beep at me so I'm not sure if this is normal or not?

If you have a b21 with a carburetor - (a B21A engine)

You have a mechanical fuel pump mounted on the left side of the engine block. Should look like one of those below. Some fuel pumps come apart and the filter screen can be cleaned. You won't get fuel to the carb - until the engine spins over and pumps it -

Electric high pressure fuel pumps are used with the fuel injected cars. A carb needs less than 5 psi so mechanical works fine.

Yes it is a b21a I know that pump works but surely there is another one to get fuel to it? Or is it a case of filling the tank with fuel and the filter with fuel to get it going long enough for it to start sucking up fuel from the tank?

 

No electric fuel pump in the original system. Mechanical pump can easily suck fuel from the tank. Fuel system is shown in bottom parts page above. No feeder pump as part of the sending unit in the gas tank, (they put out about 15 PSI, too much for a carb) and no electric main fuel pump under the lf seat on a carb car.

I'm sure my mechanical fuel pump is bad
I will attach some images I took of it, as from those diagrams I can't tell which one mine should have, could you please help me find the part number so I can get another?


Sorry the aren't the best angles but I didn't have much room to work with

 

Take the pump off, attach. A hose on the intake and submerge in a container of fuel. Manually pump the lever on the pimp to verify it’s actually bad. The cam lobe could be worn off. Then if the pump is bad, source a replacement. Can’t help you you with the part number
