Volvo 240 horn.
I'm somewhat tired of the horn on my car. It's a rather puny meep noise. Sometimes people can't hear it when I'm at their house to pick them up. So today I took one of the four not in use from my dads old Buick Park Avenue. Anyhow, it grounds via the body of the car. So, I hooked the ground end of the wire to the horn, and the positive to where its supposed to go, and when I press the horn button in the car it just makes a click. Did a little more trouble shooting with both horns. I hooked the old horn directly to the battery, and it actually sounded like a proper horn. So, why would the Volvo horn sound puny when hooked up to its harness? Also, why wouldn't the other horn just work when hooked up like the Volvo horn was?
skinny old wiring. corroded connections. bad ground. pick one or more.
I bet if you put a volt meter across your horn and push the button (earplugs?) you'll see considerably less than 12V.
the volvo horns do NOT ground through the body, they ground through the horn button on the steering column.
probably the best thing you could do would be to add a relay up front... wire relay pins like...
85 - black wire to original horns
86 - yellow wire to original horns
30 - new wire from positive terminal on left fender with inline fuse (put fuse as close to positive terminal as practical)
87 - power to horn(s)
and ground the other side of the horn to the chassis.

I janked a set of horns from a crashed 1999-2001 Ford F350 truck
had the same horns stile and connections....people sure noticed the horn....!!!!!!
I agree about the skinny wires....I did not replace my wires but would see improvement if I had done so.
