Volvo 240 Limousine
I was watching this foreign(German) movie called the lives of others. There was this limousine in it that I couldn't identify. But it caught my attention because of the sound of the engine. It had the same personality(the way it cycles) as my Volvo 240. Then finally I some head rests in the front and the rear tail lights...and it was a volvo 240 limousine!

Yep they made those. Though they wouldn't be as popular in Germany as they would be in Sweden and Norway, Sweden basically had two car companies and neither of them really understood badge engineering, in America Cadillac and Chevrolet are both run by GM and pretty much always have been. But if you wanted a limousine you'd really only ever consider a Cadillac, you'd never make one out of a Chevrolet, even though they're made by the same company and one really isn't built better than the other. But that doesn't make sense to the Swedish, why make two different cars for the working man and the effluent, the good old Volvo 240 can serve both purposes. Just make one longer and give it softer seats.

Volvo Limo
I'll bet what you saw in that movie is what is known as a 264TE. It was a specially modified and streched 264 that was ordered by and for the East German high officials, especially those in the "Stasi" or East German Security force. These were modified 264's that were sent to Bertone in Italy to be handcrafted into limousines, then delivered to the East Berlin political elite. Apparently Volvo was picked because of it's position as a "neutral" country during those cold war years (and because neither USSR or East german vehicles were modern enough for them). After the fall of the Berlin wall, they were auctioned off to the public of New Germany as surplus.
