How do I take the old coil spring out of my 1991 245 wagon? I see a button nut, how about the top? I know I first have to compress the spring right?

Also, the rear shocks.. just squeeze the shocks and loosen the bolts? Any other suggestion parts I should change while I'm half way taking the whole rear end suspension apart? I will be doing this on the lift.. so any safety or instructions i should do


one more thing I see from ipdusa.com that the front struts are just a long piece of rod.. so I have to unscrew the old one, and screw the new one on??

With the rear springs you will just have to compress them and unbolt the springs. Slip the new compressed springs back in and you are ready to go. You can replace the shocks with the suspension unloaded. The fronts are a whole other story. You will need to compress the spring, swing the top of the strut out of the car and disassemble the strut (I removed the whole thing from the car for dissassembly) then you can change out the cartridges. If you have a pnumatic spring compressor, it would be alot easier (you can rent them at some rental places). It is a pretty big job to do without the correct tools. It took me about 6 hours to do all of the shocks and struts on my 89 240, with some help.

So how many bolts are there to the rear spring? shocks, unloaded meaning just compressing?


Front suspension.. yeah I know they have to come out.. cartridges looks like a shock but is a strut with threadings?
