Good afternoon all and thank for reading my thread.

Got a 940, 1992 auto that wont shift into 3rd. (not referring to the overdrive, that relay is out of the car on my desk at the moment.)

I arrived back from a trip to find all shifting above first was temperamental.
I slackened the kick down cable and it got better to the point where i have completely disconnected the cable on the accelerator spindle side.

Now shifting between first and second it a dream...but still no third at all.

Any suggestions?

I check the service history and there hasn't been a transmission fluid change in years.
I did one today using the instructions in the following link under "7XXX 940 fluid flush":

Transmission. Automatic AW70 and ZF

There is a slight improvement in that the car goes into third when cold. But within 5 minutes of driving, I'm back to using only 2 gears.
