Default Volvo 940

Hi, I own a 1991 Volvo 940se catalyser non turbo 2 ltr petrol estate with 105 thousand miles on clock. Car starts and runs great but when you start it from cold they is a strange noise which sound as thought it's coming from under the engine. I took the car to a volvo specialist
Who said its normal but I don't think it is.
The sound seems to go once the engine warm up.
Anyone any ideas what it might be.
Thanks dave.

Most likely some exhaust related noise which disappears once things warm up and expand.

kinda hard to guess since we can't hear/see the car, and the attribute 'strange' isn't very descriptive.
