Default Volvo 940 Radio Issues

Hello,

Tonight while going to the grocery store, I decided to plug in my ipod car charger (has been used and has worked at least 5 times) into my cigarette lighter on my 94 volvo 940. After plugging it into my car, the radio light went out. For a couple of seconds, nothing happened and then and the sound of the cassette adapter flipping repeatedly between side a and side b started happening. I unplugged the charger and the flipping stopped, and the light came back on, however the radio display was blank. I continued to the store with the radio in the off position, and while on the way back home I turned on the radio and noticed the following:

When the car is in drive, with my dash lights on 100% (speedometer etc) the radio would play fine.

When the car is stopped at a stop light with dash lights on 100%, radio would stop.

With dash lights dimmed to about 15% radio would work regardless of speed.

When I turn the headlights lights on my car off, no matter what, the radio does not work.

If I have the car off, with only the fan and radio on, the radio makes a loud buzzing noise, the noise stops only if I plug anything into the cig. lighter.

I believe I may have blown a fuse, however I'm not sure 100%.

I plugged in my GPS adapter into my cig lighter and the radio light goes out just as the charger did. Also, the GPS charger is no longer charging my GPS.

Has any one had this problem?

Well, simple enough to check the fuses. It could be as simple as a bad common ground near the cig lighter. Never had that particular combination of symptoms, but bad grounds will produce some really strange stuff.

Strange things like that happened to my radio in my 940 when my battery was low because my alternator was broken. Hopefully your solution is much cheaper than mine.

After finding the online manuel and the location of the fuse box, I decided to open it up and check it out. Turns out the charger blew the fuse and after a quick trip to the store and now my radio works good as new and my cig lighter is charging my GPS. Thanks for the tips guys!
