Default Volvo 940 turbodiesel D24TIC repair turbocharger Garett t3

Hello my turbocharger was pumping the oil in the engine and i repair it at the moment. I bought repair kit for Garett T3 from ebay.

Now my turbocharger work pretty good does not burning oil because i replace the seal ring but i hear howling sound from the shaft and now the pressure is about 0,9-1,0 bar, before was about 1,8 bar. It was really fast now is not so fast, but there is no black cluds. The actuator was blocked before, now i put some oil and now work fine. I dont know what is correct torque about the shaft nut and i don,t have the torque wrench- maybe the sound is coming from this nut. About the pressure maybe actuator maybe housing leaking air i don,t know. Any ideas guys.

Stock boost pressure is .6 or .7 bar. Your actuator rod oractuator was stuck before and you were overboosting...A LOT! 1.5 bar is about the safe maximum for a T3. You replaced the dynamic seal to prevent oil burning but it sounds as though you may have other problems. The impeller shaft should move only the tiniest amount side to side. Pulling and pushing on the impeller shaft nut should have no effect at all. If it moves in and out, it's worn out. As for torque? I tighten them as much as I can. I've rebuilt 3 and never had issues.

I replaced everything.

I used This kit : http://cgi.ebay.com/Turbo-Rebuild-Re...item5adbf0d7ad

There is no axial play, radial play is about 0,1mm.

If the shaft nut is very tight can risk to bending the shaft i read here:
http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Engi...Rebuilding.htm

But the sound which i heard is about 2000 rpm with more gas there is no sound and when i pull back the gas about 2000 rpm i hear again this sound. Maybe balancing issue.

Hi,

Wish I could help you, but I new to volvos and turbos. Since this thread is about rebuilding turbo's (and I have one that needs rebuilt), can anyone steer me to a thread or article tutorial?

Sorry I cannot be of help, and I hope I didn't jack your thread.

Good luck!

You can see this link. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Engi...Rebuilding.htm

Disasamble the charger buy new rebuild kit and repair it. It is not very difficult. In some cases you may need new shaft and turbine wheels if they are damaged it.
