Volvosaur still dead
Many thanks to everyone who responded to my last post. I appreciate the help. Here's an update on the car:
The timing belt is broken.
The idiot who installed the new alternator did it incorrectly. It wasn't mounted properly, which caused the belts to break and fall off.
So that's why it's not running now. The shop is charging me $166 for a new timing belt, including labor. I've been hearing that's really cheap. What do you guys think? Also, the mechanic said there's a strong possibility that the valves are bent. Would that be causing the knocking sound I hear? The shop said they won't know until they can get the car running.
Thanks again for your help.

Price wise that is pretty fair.
Your main concern should be the valves.
Once a timing belt breaks on an interference engine it is not pretty.
Have them inspect it for valve / piston damage before having the belt put on.
