What to buy? '94 940 Turbo w300k vs '95 960w 188k
I blew the headgasket, and overheated the motor on my 94' non turbo IPD cam Bosch wagon-car's got SO many aftermarket parts, brand new header back exhaust, etc. It's GOT to be brought back to life, and I've got a '94 Regina wagon to scalp block/engine parts off of. See heads, give the block is flat and in spec. But...rings could be shot, it's blowing combustion into the coolant.
BUT-I already had intentions of buying a "project car" 2nd wagon. With focus on "sport" as a Father/Son project.
Pluses on the 940 turbo, and all my cars a 94-95 model years, are parts, minuses are, it leaks oil, maybe some other things. I'd consider rebuilding the motor, again-project car, maybe adding some trick parts... Minuses, it does have 300+ on it, and I don't know the history...
Pluses on the 960- It's a 960. I owned a '93, and these are well... these. When they're up and running the're awesome...
Minuses-- parts commonality--my '93 was a frikken headache when it didn't run, and I'm not sure if the '95 had the "new" for that year independent rear suspension vs. axle, or if that was '96-'97 years. Nowhere near as many "upgrade" trick parts available. Granted it's got 205?hp stock... it'd be awesome to get a car that'll put out 300+ on a Swede motor
Or buy both. Asking price on the 940 is $600... on the 960 is $1,000

94+ 960 wagons are the new style suspension, there's virtually NO aftermarket shocks for them, just Volvo Monroes :-/ also the facelift body for which there are no aftermatket headlight replacements or whatever.
That's a bummer...
actually, it may be model year 1995 only (production started in 1994). in 1996, they rebranded them S90/V90.
note ALL 960 sedans are IRS but only the face lift ones have the transverse composite leaf spring, the earlier IRS have coil springs.

compelling advertising...

I love those engines. If I had time energy and money, and....a lot more tools and access to a lift, I'd have no thought about cobbling a 6 cylinder turbo...
I think I'll stick to the 940 FT
EDIT: Don't the damn timing belts on those things need to be swapped like twice a month too??? IF I remember from my '93... plus I'm still pissed about the airbag/horn placement and my new "Warner's Bros." thumb I get for the rest of my life...it did save it and my Son's but.....I mean VOLVO? they could've figured that one out. Don't put the exploding thing under where the hand might likely be.
I really want another one, and hell, it might run for another 100k. But I want the sensible part of my brain to win out on this one. I'll let you know if I figure out what part of my brain that is...
