What size wrench is needed to remove oil drain plug?
I have a 89 240 and went under the car yesterday to change the oil. The oil plug is huge and I didn't have a wrench or socket to fit it. I had to use a pipe wrench to loosen it. Next time I want to have the correct tool. I want to go to the store and buy just one socket instead of a whole set of big sockets. So anyone know which size it is?
I can't remember off hand what size the drain plug is. I'll reply back later on today, if no one else has, because I've got some little things I'm going to do to my old pride and joy
this afternoon. I'll check for you then.

Sorry j, but I can't tell you the exact size wrench to use. The one I've been using is a 1" box end, of which I know is not the correct size. It's a little loose but works like a champ without rounding off the drain plug. The biggest metric wrench I have is a 19mm which is why I've been using my 1" wrench. Hopefully tech or someone else will give you the exact one to use.

Thanks JetTech, it is a big drain plug isn't it? I still have 4000 or so miles to go till my next oil change. I'm sure by then someone will post exactly what size tool it requires.
If your car's like my 1987 740, then a 24mm is too small, and a 26mm too large. I can't find a 25mm in any store, but it seems to be about the same as a 1 incher, as 25mm = 0.98"
