you need to know if the car has BOSCH or REGINA injection.

regina uses only a single high pressure pump inside the gastank, and no pump under the back seat. bosch uses both a booster pump inside the gas tank and a high pressure main pump under the back seat (these are on the underside of the car...). turbos and 16V's came with a higher flow main pump, this higher flow pump could be used on non-turbos without any problems, but the 'normal' flow pump wouldn't provide enough gas for the turbo engine under heavy boost/acceleration.

the last year of 940's, 1995, even the bosch cars switched to a single in-tank pump, which happens to be the same in tank pump used on 850's and newer cars.

within these constraints, a bosch non-turbo 2-pump car could use the main fuel pump from *ANY* 240/740/940 non-turbo/non-regina from about 1983 forward. I think the 240 and 740/940 in-tank pumps differ somewhat.
