fuel pumps 240
Greetings, All! I have a quick question . I have just replaced the main fuel pump on my 91 244. It was leaking quite badly. The fuel sender and in-tank pump connector has corroded/broken off so the in-tank pump does not work. How soon, or will it cause a failure or strain on the new main pump? I ran it for about a mile or so and it was making a slight noise, not too loud, but louder than I remember the old one being. I have attempted to remove the old sender with a brass punch, but do not have the new rubber seal and was having no success, so I stopped. Maybe it will have to be the Bung nut tool to change the sending unit. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

This link may help you with removing the fuel tank. I've done it a couple times with my mustangs, and it can be tricky to get back on there. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I bit the bullet and ordered the bungnut tool and seal from IPD, but hey say it could take 3 weeks. I will try other ways in the meantime. Is it simple to hook up the in-tank pump? My new sender has wiring for it, but it does ot look easy. Maybe it will be clearer if I manage to get it out. I will keep you all informed. Thanks.

RE: fuel pumps 240
Success! With much frustration and liquid wrench, I managed to dislodge the old ring. Brass punch? Nuts! A good old zip gun chisel with some duct tape did the trick. Working fuel gauge, quiet fuel pump, new plugs, cap and rotor, lets see how far we can get on a tank at $4.25 a gallon. Thanks for the help!
