The first thing that comes to mind is a bad spot on the starter solenoid. My starter was replaced before I bought the car so I know it went south at some point. If you tap on the solenoid with a screw driver handle or lightly with a small hammer and the car starts, you'll then be able to confirm that you'll need a new starter. Sometimes the tap method works and sometimes it doesn't. So if this doesn't bring it back to life, don't assume the starter is ok because my guess it's probably not. Good luck and I hope this helps.

I had the same problem and it was the cilinoid, so I replaced it, with one of a dodge 2.4 starter,, they're interchangeable, and cheaper.

try shorting the 12volt wire from cilinoid to the 12 triger wire,, see if it does any thing
