Default windshield leak on drivers side...

the last couple of rains I've noticed my windshield leaking about 6 inches up the A pillar. it doesn't seem to stream in, but it just sort of drips. but it goes back behind the dash, and ends up running down the fuse panel cover (LUCKILY it hasn't actually gotten the fuses wet...yet.), and onto the floor. my carpet is getting soaked, so maybe it's leaking a lot more than I think? it doesn't appear to be letting in lots of water...

are the 240 windshields prone to leaking like this? I read something about a clogged "rain drain" on a 940...do 240's have these drains? is there anything else to check?

also, I called a glass company about fixing it, and the guy told me that 240s have a windshield gasket and you have to replace the whole thing. he made it sound like if you remove the windshield it pretty much always breaks. I don't want to replace the whole thing just to fix a leak.

does this car have a sunroof?

sunroofs are mounted in a rain pan, which has drain lines down both A and C pillars. if these plug up, the water can find itself in places you don't want it.

and yes, 20 year old cars can have leaky windshields, and I think 240's are worse than many. newer car windshields, including 740/940, are glued in with urethane.

Not just 240s, pretty much all cars. Could be worse, you could be driving a VW Rabbit. Of the five I have had only one has not leaked on the fuse panel as of yet.

on my 79 242 there are these ducts right behind the hood hinges that I had to vacuum out 25 years worth of dog hair/leafs/dirt and mice droppings....the driver side one was incredibly clogged with dirt and leafs...and when I dug it all out...it seems that water escapes through touching the firewall and if there where any holes on the firewall behind the pedals it would soak up my carpet. Can't remember on later models though.
