Default Yet another speedometer question 240

1991 240 automatic

When rolling along at less than 10 mph the speedometer needle bounces, this is more pronounced at 5 and under. My wife's 1992 automatic does not do this.


Could it be a dirty sensor
Sensor gone bad
Or perhaps a seppedometer that's on its way out

Never seen a "dirty sensor"... Probably going out, the capacitors, usually the cause.

Ah! replaceable? I have quite a lot of soldering experience, anything I should look out for.

My last 240 would do this after I upsized the tires a little bit.

I'm running 195/75/14

That link applies to the 700 series which has a different design than the 240. I really haven't heard of bad capacitors as a problem on 240 speedometers. Check out the following link. It has some tips for the 240 speedometer:
