1996 960 rear end rattle/knock
Looks like there is a lot of assistance and adviceoffered here. I'm hoping I might get some help/suggestions/advice on a problem I'm having with my 960.
When getting to about 40 MPH I'm assuming the transmission locks up the torque converter. At that point there is a rattle or knock heard from the rear end. Under 40 MPH, no noise at all from the rear end. Over 40 MPH anytime the transmission drops out of the lock up then back into the lock up I hear the rattle or knock (on the lock up).
I should also mention that there is a very slow leak of fluid from the rear end. No idea where exactly the leak is on the rear end.
Oh, I've got about 133,000 miles on the car.

I would check the tranny fluid level, and check the oil level in the rear diff. If neither have been changed in a while I would change them and see what happens. Also check your carrier bearing (I think that's what it's called) it supports the driveshaft, and typically wears out over time, and can cause shuddering from the rear end.
