Thumbs up 2 fuel pumps?

My Daughters boy friend swears that i have an in line fuel pump on my frame rail somewhere down line of the in tank pump....theory is the distance from the tank to the motor??? i dont see one but he said he changed the in tank pump on his 740 wagon and then learned of the rail pump and fixed a bad idle issue......does the 960 wagon have a frame mounted pump somewhere on it that works in conjunction with the intank pump??? hell does the 740 for that matter? i cant find any info on a second fuel pump on a Volvo anywhere

thanks - -im standing here with my hands on the BS flag ready to throw it down for a penalty.....lmao

Don't throw that flaq quite yet. My '94 has two pumps, one prepump in the tank and another located under the vehicle just behind the driver seat.

But in '95 there were some changes to the electical system to get ready for the '96 year when volvo went with OBDii diagnostics, so for sure '96 and forward it was only one pump in the tank, but I cannot answer you if they made that change in '95 even though it was still OBDi diagnostics.

DanR '94 960 368,000 miles (134,000 miles on the new engine)

Default 2 fuel pumps

My '96 960 wagon only has 1 fuel pump. I just replaced a few months ago, but according to Napa, there is a possibility of 2 pump set-ups. Their books listed an in-tank lift type along with frame mounted & just an in-tank type. The 3rd pump ordered was the correct one for mine.

DanR is correct. I think 1995 960 Regina cars had 1 fuel pump (high-pressure / in-tank), while Bosch 1.8 had two pumps (low-pressure / in tank, high-pressure / in fuel line). You should be able to tell by just looking.

Yes, 740 had 2 pumps, young-blood is right.

Yep. Even 1997s and 1998s are listed as both scenarios. They must exist, I guess. My 1998 is a single pump too.

My '87 740 GLE had 2 pumps. One in the tank and one under the car mounted along side the filter. I don't think any of my 960's had 2 pumps.
