from a 240 series to a 960 series
I've owned Amazons, 1800's 140s and 240s and want another rear drive wagon.
How difficult are 960s with the L6 white block to live with.
My 244 will probably out last me, but want a wagon.

Zombi,
I too have owned 544's 122's 140's and 740's I think like 25 or so. I now have a 1996 960 wagon and a 97 V90 wagon. They are both the about the same. The 97 has 227,000 and runs well. Underside is rusting a bit due to NW Pa. road salt. They have their share of quirks but so did the rest of them. the 96 has only 123,000 and came from Texas. I'll be 74 and Lord willing I may never need another car. I like RWD cars and I fit these just fine. Change the timing belt, and idler pulley and don't let it overheat. The timing belt breaking ruins the valves and pistons and overheating warps the aluminum head. The power seats are prone to issues, I never move mine and of course the sunroof is know to leak but only when it rains. Too much electronic stuff to suit me and I'd trade either or both of them for a 81-83 240 non turbo wagon with a manual trans. another + for the 960 is they are non turbo and have plenty of power, I live in mountain country and hills are a non issue.
I also have a 960 parts car if you need anything.

Zombi,
I forgot one other failure both my 960's had. Not an expensive fix but in typical Volvo fashion difficult to repair.
Park Neutral Safety Switch. The telltale arrow begins to flash on the dash and the tranny goes into limp mode
which gives you a slow ride home. The part is lees than 50 bucks but the placement is squished between the
tranny and the exhaust pipe. Also has two multiple pin plug ins that are usually corroded which may need rewired.
Not trying to steer you away from a 960 as I've gotten a lot of miles out of mine. One more minor issue is the door
latches have a plastic part that I've replaced in four of the doors. The door panel has to come off and the usual
drama that causes. You are right about the deal that don't feel right, no harm in passing.
