I noticed 265GLE 1980 was much faster, also quiet, engine is probably much more powerful than 264GL and, as far as I know, this engine was rebuilt shortly before I bought this car, some 3 years ago. I am interested to fit 265GLE 1980 engine (and auto transmission) into 264GL...is that good idea ? Is that easy or I should expect some big difficulties ? Providing I do it, is that possible to modify 265GLE 1980 engine a bit, to get even more power ? (I am only interested if modifications would be rather easy and not expensive. Maybe high compression pistons, maybe some nice camshafts, some high energy ignition coil or...? I don't want to play with fuel system too much. If I can put 265GLE V6 into my 264GL car and make this engine even more powerful-I will probably decide to make this 264GL really spotless and beautiful car...

Those engines are identical... One may be in a little better shape than the other but is that enough reason to go through all that work to get what, a slight improvement, if any? I doubt there is much you can do to soup it up, these motors are somewhat of "black sheep" in the Volvo world--they definitely don't get much love. I'd just keep one car as nice as possible, tune the motor, etc, not get into motor swaps for little gain, if any.
