Default 87 760 Turbo with smoking problems

So a couple weeks ago my wife's car started making terrible noises and blowing out some serious smoke. I checked the spark plugs; they all looked fine. A little worn since they hadn't been changed in about 3 years but no oil or any indication of foul play (pun intended). Compression checked out at between 127 & 139 on all cylinders.

I conluded that since the turbo was making alot of noise that the issue must be the turbo. I got ahold of a rebuilt Garrett T3 and after a few hours of work I thought I had hit the mother lode. My baby purred like a kitten and sounded ready to roll. Unfortunately when I got myself cleaned up and went for a drive, she smoked like Cheech & Chong on paid holiday!

Any ideas?
Dave

Is everything else ok besides the smoke after the new turbo? The noise gone? What kind of smoke is it? Black, white, grey, steam? Head gasket ok?

Looks like I may have jumped to conclusions too fast. Wife's been driving this week and it's been fine. I took it for a spin tonight and no smoke and plenty of boost.

Looks like all is well!
