Default 960 new battery and wont start

Hello, I have a 92 960 that was sitting for 5 months. The battery died. I replaced it today and now the car will turn but not start. The Winter mode indicator blinks and the W and S mode on the center console blink as well. Is there a trick or something I need to do before the car will start? I cycled the locks and that did not do anything. Any guidance is much appreciated. Thanks,
Matt

Car needs 4 things to start:

1. Fuel
2. Spark
3. Compression
4. Timing.

Let us know if you need help checking those items.

Thank you. I just wasn't sure as this is the only volvo I have ever had and have read some odd things online after replacing the battery.

No I never got it started. New battery, starting fluid, it cranks but just won't turn over. I am having it towed this Monday to the repair shop

If it has the factory security system, have you tried putting the key in the driver's door, locking it then un-locking it? Not to familiar with the Volvos yet, but my '92 Infiniti was like that.
Just a thought?

Did you ever check to see if it had spark at the plugs ??

Please post what you end up finding.

I'd make sure the battery/connections are good--it will need extra power to fire up after sitting. A '92 doesn't have much of a factory alarm, no immobilizer anyway (if memory serves).

Default problem found

Thank you for all of your guidance and advice. Unfortunately my mechanic has found the issue. I say unfortunately because I now have to put my 960 to the scrapyard. It turns out under the dash rodents built a nest and chewed through the main wire harness and wiring to the computer. The car simply is not worth the labor and time to find the all parts to repair. It is a shame too because the car only had 59,000 miles on it.
Hopefully I can find another car to replace it soon. I bought it for my daughter because it was a "sherman tank on wheels". Who know maybe I can pick up a used S70 or late 90's S80 for her.
Thank you everyone. This is a cool site.

Stay FAR AWAY from the '99 S80.

Hopefully you haven't given the ok to scrap it yet.

Where are you located?

You could always post it on craigslist and or here in classifieds for a parts car or repair and let someone know what it needs. It's a shame for something with that mileage to die.
Even if you can only post it for a couple days before it's towed think about giving it a chance or at least someone who needs parts to help you recover some $$$
Even though for you it's too much and too expensive there might be a Volvo nut out there near you who is willing and able to bring it back to life.

Oh, almost forgot to mention, a friend of mine had this issue and his insurance company paid to have the car fixed. May not apply here due to the fact that I may be the only person that has full coverage on Volvo's that are over 15 years old. Lol
