Default 960 Transmission Question

I have a 960 wagon with 140k miles. Everything is running well. However, there is a occasionally a strange fluttering noise from under the right side of the car when it shifts at around 40 mph. This noise seems to come from under the front passenger seat and never occurs at any other shift point. The car shifts fine except for this noise. Is there a solenoid that could be making this noise? The car runs great and is extremely reliable but this one intermittentnoise is bugging me.

Any thoughts?

I would check the driveshaft carrier bearing.

Thanks. Can I assume that this kind of issue is more of a noise problem than a future reliability problem?

If it is that then it will mainly be an annoying noise.

I think its just the heat shield for the catalytic converter. Between the floorboard and the converter. One of the shields mounts has come loose due to rust or from a hit of some sort. Vibrates only when a certain oscillations occurs. Like when the motor revs with just the right amount of strain, just as it shifts into that last gear. It might be the carrier bearing but if so would happen more than just as you describe. I doubt its the trans mount as you tend to get a thumping on the floor when they go.

By the way if that's a DOHC 6 cyl, Change the timing belt now. Unless you know FOR A FACT when it was last done. Actual documentation. If that belt breaks, you'll be buying a knew car again. They should be changed every 70,000 miles... Nice car though. 140,000, just broke in... I got a 240 385,000...
