Default After Collision/Repair, Brake Light/Turn Signal Inoperative

So my daughter was hit from behind while waiting at a light in her 97 960 Wagon. Bent the rear bumper badly, did no damage to my daughter (thank you, Volvo).

The body shop fixed the bumper very nicely and even painted and attached a piece of spare trim I had waiting in my garage. When we got the car back, however, the right rear brake light and right rear turn signal are inoperative.

I tested the bulbs and the sockets, both have continuity. When I check for voltage between the power wire and ground, I get nothing. Since the driver's side brake light and turn signal work, I know it's not a fuse problem. What else is there that I can check to fix the problem?

I know I should bring it back to the body shop, but the place is 25 minutes away, and daughter's schedule doesn't match very well with mine or the body shop's. If I can fix it myself with a few dollars and an few minutes, I'd much prefer it.

Any ideas are welcome.

thanks.

az

I believe there is a light connector box in the left rear body panel area where the antenna motor is. Check there for damage or damaged wires.

Sorry for the delay. I haven't had the time to investigate.

More details: The tail light illuminates when headlights are on, and looks just like the light on the left side. When she steps on the brake, however, the left side brightens, but the right side remains the same. The center brake light illuminates with the brake. The dash also has a warning light that comes on with the brake.

The right directional doesn't light at all. And flashes quickly when the signal is engaged.

Sounds like you have a bad brake light and bad front turn signal light bulb. Pull the front bulbs and make sure the bulb contacts are not smashed together.
