On a 1995 Volvo 960, we hear a loud air rushing sound from under the steering wheel. When the air noise is heard, the motor starts vibrating (feels like a vacuum leak) and it only lasts for a few seconds at a time. We have been told that it is the brake booster and/or brake booster check valve.

Does this sound correct? Is it a do-it-yourself job?
