Default A/C problem

Greetings -

My wife's '96 960 is experiencing an A/C problem. The A/C shuts down under heavy load, such as climbing a grade, like it is apparently supposed to. But it does not come back on for up to 30 minutes. I've read about the low pressure and high pressure switches, but this sounds like something else not kicking back in. Any help or thoughts appreciated.

I will bet the A/C compressor needs to be reshimmed. I made a post in the top of the 850 section about how to do it.

I gave it the broomstick tap test today once the AC shut off. Tapped the front of the clutch with a stick, but got no response. About 30 seconds later while I was swearing at it, it kicked back in, and I noticed the coolant fan came on at the same time. Does this point towards one of the switches I should check out?

Thanks !

spray the compressor with water, it may be over heating. mine would cut off for about 5 min or so.
i thought maybe the hi press switch but no, i just unpluged the temp switch on the back of the comp.
the temp switch was working properly, checked it in water on the stove. i think i even swapped comp.
