door panels are starting to get to me...
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to know what kind of state everyone's door panels are in? mine have been peeling real bad for a while now and i have cut and glued them flat....however we can all guess that this isnt a pretty thing to look at.....was wondering if its just mine? or have others done better fixes....i am thinking of buying some vinyl and attempting a complete overhaul. (yesterday the door trim and bottom pocket fell off after i closed the door lol). LEt me know and i will share my project.
Thanks,
Steve

Mine are puckering and look funky, but the passenger-side airbag cover with ever-deepening cracks bugs me more. I am afraid to pull the door panels off for repair, for fear that I'll never get them back on properly.
I keep telling myself that it's not a show car, why worry about it?

the 960 seems to be a rear thing here in NE...i had a "parts" 960 that had a worse interior then mine. ill keep an eye out this light beige in decent shape seems to not be anywhere. gonna play with vinyl this weekend and see how it goes lol
That vinyl is REALLY thin! Our panels are in great shape; or, well, they were...
You see, when one's sedan is rudely assaulted from behind, the decklid latch can in some cases go monkeys. Remedying the situation requires either cutting the whole lid off the car (tempting; but no torch on-hand that day), or Houdini contortions prying, hand drilling, and loosening bolts/screws through the ski door. Overall, it's a very entertaining way to spend a Summer afternoon...
Long story short, I left a 6' long extension assembly on the back seat while unscrewing my neck for a minute, and inadvertently closed the passenger door just enough to poke a nice, square 1/2" drive hole in the rear driver's side panel vinyl. Mad is a good word for the resulting demonstration.
However, upon closely examining my new "DIY modification" I came to the conclusion that a pressure-sensitive sticker would actually have greater integrity than the original upholstery film! I've since mused about everything from a round Volvo emblem to a metallized smiley; the kind which family cars are often decorated with anyway.
Long way 'round: Almost any conscientious TLC for these panels will add value, and small holes/tears will actually register some net improvement durabilitywise with the addition of a tasteful sticker, glued plastic screwhole cover, or the like

@southpaw47:
If everyone else says it's NLA, I'd check directly with Ken Rein @ Volvo of Watertown.
If it's possible to get any OEM item through this region's distribution network, he'll dig it out for you and put it in their online inventory at the best price you'll probably ever find.
