" Many thermostats don't work, so people close off the air from the exhaust. This is important."

ok i get this, except for the part where the air comes from the exhaust?...the port side that the thermostat controls seems to be toward the front, which is the tube that wraps in front of the condenser......it came from Cali, and im in Fla., so the temp under the hood is always over 67 degrees....engine bays get hot...i dont get that. no matter what the temp is gonna be high extra tubes or not, only now it gets more air....i drove it all day like this with no problems...so i dont know...

i could however plumb that tube back in...close the rear facing side off, and open that restrictive valve...that way its getting ambient outside air...that may be better if the sensor is that sensitive.

ok ok...just looked at it all again to see how it worked....sorry for seeming retarded.....so i pulled out the thermostat and used a screw to hold the door open to the front side, re-installed that Y and the tubing to the front of the condenser for now until i come up with a better solution...

Maybe a misfire? Check your spark-plugs. Check also your COPs (coil-on-plug), and especially their boots for cracks.

Thirdly, check the electrical connectors to the COPs. They are know to corrode and back out.

Get an OBDII Scanner/Reader. Or you can DIY one this way.

Here is my pic of the EGR. And yes it does look like you have one: https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...01/#post287339

Miley, from the looks of your VW, I know your neighbors breathed a sigh of relief when they seen that 960 show up, the car is beautiful. They have NO IDEA what you have in store for it. LOL I mean it, funny!!! If you really want to have fun with a car, trade the thing straight up with someone with a 850 T-5, and make it a wagon. Way easier to do mods on it and you will be like me and get a kick out of playing with people in a Volvo wagon and kicking their butts.

If you plan to own an older Volvo for longer than 2 weeks, yes you will need a OBD-II scanner.

Yes, reading this thread has been fun. Thanks for the laughs, especially your user name.

For cracks and the wires backing out of the back of them. You really need to check codes, the computer will tell you which cylinder is missing if any. Once you find that out you can swap coil packs to see if the missfire follows.

its strange, it only misses/shutters at higher speeds, over 55, and inbetween on/off throttle...its as soon as i let off the gas it bucks a bit...as if it wants to go or just coast...and usually in the daytime when its warmer......although sometimes it does it if i romp on it....passing gear under higher load.....

nope....it runs perfect all other times....only upon letting off the throttle it bucks.....also, just drove it to work...switched from S, sport, to E.....Economy.....still does it...but not as bad....

another thing....the faster i drive...the harder it bucks/shudders.....feels like a spark cut as soon as the throttle body closes.....wierd..

AND...i keep seeing this car with a cone air filter right on the MAF tube...if the sensor is that sensitive how can that work....and it seems to.....so opening up my stock box should be ok...??
