Default License Plate Bulb

I just purchased a '88 GLE and saw that I needed to replace both license plate bulbs. After getting to the bulbs to replace them, I saw that the current ones (both) were literally broken. My question is: are there suggestions for removing the broken bulbs so I may install the new ones? Unfortunately neither move when I try to twist or pull forward to remove.

Thanks in advance

I have used the eraser end of a wood pencil to get them to unscrew. If they are corroded in place you may need a new light assembly.

I use needle nose pliers or regular pliers. Just make sure you turn the lights off.
