Default PNP problem on '96 960?

Hello friends! My old Crown Vic finally died on me and I replaced the Queen with a King (as the title states.. a 1996 960 sedan!). Got the car for a really good price, but of course, there were draw backs to the deal D:
The first thing was it needed 4 new tires -- boom done! Only three other issues to take care of before the king starts roaming the streets: brake light, drivers side mirror, serpentine belt needs to be replaced soon and the aforementioned possible PNP issue.

Let's begin with that: up arrow is flashing, as are W/S/E lights, check engine is on and speedometer wasn't working at first but then kicked in after driving maybe half a mile. The internets have led me to believe this is most likely an issue with the pnp switch. I've tried the gear shift trick (going through all the gears over and over) with no success. The car didn't seem to have any trouble shifting through gears, however the speed limit was only 25 the whole way home. Are the internets correct (clean/replace pnp switch)? Or should I dive deeper?

Now the break light (the high mount to be specific): I've replaced the bulb but still nada. All the fuses are good. All the other lights work. Where do I go from here?
The other issues have yet to be addressed but there isn't much confusion as to how to fix those anyways...

Sorry for the long post but any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Common problem. Half the posts here are for the switch. Some have tried to clean them, with mixed results. Read some more here. If you have no patience, change it, and your odds are 2-1.
