replaced bushings, still kind of a harsh ride
Over the last few months I have replaced most of the bushings on the front end of my 93 960, including the upper and lower control arm bushings, the strut rod bushings, and my ball joints. About 2 years ago I did my swaybar end links and front struts, and about 6 months ago I put on a lower chassis brace. Right now the car drives straight and tight with no rattles, but when I get onto a rougher road or hit bigger expansion joints it seems to hit pretty hard in the front. It's kind of like a bang that I can really feel through the steering wheel and the dash vs the more of a "muffled thump" I would feel when I drive the same roads in my girlfriends subaru. Maybe this is just how the car is? or is there something else I should check? I'm not 100% sure if the bushings around the top of the struts were replaced when I had them done, from what I can see they seem to look in good shape. Is there is another one hidden under the car or something that I may have missed?
Man, my 960 rides real nice. My guess would be the type of strut you put on the front. They have different styles for different ride feels. If I could afford it, I would get the ones that are new and adjust according to the road smoothness.
yeah it rides really nice overall. No huge complaints. My tires are starting to wear as well, which is probably affecting things a bit. I'd say they have maybe 15k left on them. I dropped my tires PSI down to 32 all around and that has helped soften things a bit. (I recently did a big roadtrip and had them up at 37)
