Default Stereo SC-811

Hi, new to forum, just bought a 97 960 with 44K. Would like to know if there is a stock Volvo stereo that has both CD and cassette and if they are interchangable or is there any wiring that needs to be done. I currently have the SC-811 Cassette only. Thanks for the forum!!

I have a 97 960 with single CD player and a cassette player, they do exist. I have seem them on E Bay every now and then. You do know about the timing belt that needs to be changed every 70,000 miles?

Thanks for the info. What model stereo is it? Would I have to change any of the wiring or will it slide right in.

Yeah I know about the timing belt issues. Thanks!!

I don't know the number for the unit or if it would just slide in, sorry. It has been awhile, since I have looked at them.

I guess if mine dies, I will go aftermarket, maybe, I really hate to spoil the original look. Maybe a Pick-A_part or salvage yard near you may be your best bet.

Good Luck

Finious, have the timing belt changed ASAP. A 12 or 13 year old timing belt is a ticking time bomb. I purchased a '97 960 with 53k on it and I had the belt replaced as soon as I had the $$$ to have it done.

Default SC-815 Radio

I have a 97 960, with the SC-815 radio that has both a CD & cassette player. My guess is that it would plug right in for you. Most cars come prewired to accept any optional radio. Some don't. My radio just slips out by using a pocket knife or small screwdriver. I also found my security code written on the top of the radio on a piece of tape.
If you decide on a aftermarket radio, Crutchfield Electronics offers an adapter harness to go from the plug in the car to the plug on the radio. Their prices are very competitive and the customer service is excellent.
Hope this helps,
Jim

One thing I forgot, the guys are right about the timing belt. I had mine changed two weeks after I bought the car. Since the car had 148k on it, I replaced the water pump and idler pulleys just to be safe. It's cheap insurance considering how much it would cost to replace the engine if the belt breaks.

The SC811, SC815 and the SC816 are all interchangeable. It's a simple plug and play situation as long as you have the anti theft code for the new unit.

+1 on JKS2. I went thru about 3 used ones in a relatively short period of time, and eventually just put in an aftermarket one. Each of the used ones lasted for a while and then had various issues.

BTW, I have a trunk mounted changer that I am not using if anyone is interested.
