Did we see a 960 turbo sedan in 1994 in the U.S.? The deeper I search, the more conflicting this question gets. I know the 16 valve turbo was available overseas...

 

Not as far as I know. There was a 760/940 turbo that is pretty much the same body style as the 960 but that is the 92/93 body style.

 

yes there was. hard to find though! I would've killed for a turbo in my old 96 960, but 91-94 were the only years they were made, and it's the old body style not the newer right?

 

Older body style. But if it was turbo(which I have never seen) it would be a 4 cylinder turbo.

 

There has NEVER been a Volvo 960 TURBO anywhere, not a factory model anyway. There has never been a 16V TURBO RWD either. May be some genious made one in his garage but Volvo never made them.

 

yes they never put a turbo in any 960, and they should have! my old 960 seemed like it hauled more than the average 850, imagine a 97 with a turbo

i was pointing at the fact that many people, esp. in europe, modded them out a lot. way more than 960s here, and i was pretty sure they drove better and were slightly faster anyways

 

published hp ratings for 92-94 volvo 960s was 201
hp ratings for 95 up 960s was 181. go figure.. and that was a year BEFORE OBD II !

 

Actually, no. I spend have my time in Germany and I have never seen a modified 960. It is just not an enthusiast's car: way too big and thirsty. They do have them with a stck though...

 

Actually there was a 960 turbo in Europe, in limited markets, to conform to the 2 liter and less size to qualify for a huge tax saving like in Italy
A 2.0 litre 16 Valve turbo was used, supposed to produce around 200 hp.
I will see if i can find pictures of the engine and the rear emblem of the car

 

The 2.0 litre 16 valve turbo was also offered in the 700 series in limited markets in Europe also.

 

960s in US never had Turbo. Sure, a few people have DIY them, here in the states too. Yet I-6 in S80 were turboed, and it is basically the same engine, of course modified/improved for turbo-charging.

 

Man, if I had a 960 turbo I would keep it forever. They could bury me in that thing.
