Question transmission switch for cranking in park

I have a 98 960/S90 and the switch is bad that allows you to start the car only in park. The times it failed I have been able to crank in neutral. does switch affect both park and neutral? And where do i find it, on the transmission?

What are you saying? Will the car start in Drive? Does it not crank at all? Will the key not turn? Is it cranking and not turning over?

What i am saying is sometimes it will not crank in park. The check engine light came on and the code said faulty switch, don't remember the exact name but the guy told me it was the switch that controled wether or not it would crank in park. So I thought i would replace it and i didn't want to go on a scavenger hunt to find it. I will not crank in drive and never has. It will some times crank in neutral.

That is the PNP switch. It is located on the passenger side of the transmission.
This is what it looks like.

You can check around but make sure you get an OEM one. The aftermarket ones are JUNK.
