Default Troubleshooting Interior light problems

My wife just bought a 97 960 sedan. Basically she got taken for a "ride" by the used car dealer and now I am working on fixing things in the car that I can and paying a mechanic for the things I can't. here are my questions:

- How do I troubleshoot and repair the light that illuminates the AT gear selection shifter. It is the light that shows whether you are in Park, Reverse, Neutral, etc... It came on once since she bought the car but not since.

- How do I troubleshoot the light that illuminates the temperature dial on the air condition cluster. The fan speed dial setting and the vent control dial setting are fine but the temperature selection dial on that same panel is dark.

- Is there a cheap place to get the plastic housing for the rear center brake light. The one that is on there is all cracked and was glued back togehter with super glue. While I am on the subject it appears that brake light is abnormally hot for what it does. The housing looks like it has absorbed a bit of heat.

If this work is beyond the skills of an amatuer please let me know that and who you recommend I take it to so I can get it fixed

Thanks for any assistance you can provide

The shift indicator bulb is most likely bad. You will have to remove the center console to replace.

The A/C light you will have to remove the panel and open it up to replace the bulb. (Kind of hard)

I think the cover may be Dealer only.

Can you give me some pointers on how to attack removing the center console to get at the gear selector bulb?

There is 2 screws in the bottom of the Cubby under the Arm rest.
Also you will need to remove the lower dash covers to gain access to the front console screws.

Then it should slide out.
