Evening all. Just bought this vehicle (automatic sedan).New to volvos & am interested in finding out just what i should look out for in this model. It is in fairly good condition other than boot, drivers door & glovebox locks u/s. They`re an easy fix. Are there mech things i should be aware of being it an east/west engine. Does one use a specific coolant/transmission/engine oil? Thanks in advance.

I know the 93 model was the "odd year". Besides the engine, they have nothing in common with any other 850 model. The only thing I would really keep an eye on is the PCV system. If it gets clogged, it can cause some expensive leaks.
As for east coast verses west coast, they are the same (except for CA models). The oil type you use depends on your climate. Check the owners manual.

Watch the timing belt; 93 models require 50,000-mile/5 year replacement.
My personal favourite:
Coolant: Prestone and make 50:50 mix (stay away from pre-mixed solution)
Engine oil: Full synthetic 10W-30 for turbo, regular 10W-30 for non-turbo.
ATF: A name brand's Dexron-III/Mercon, non-synthetic.
Brake fluid: ATE Super Blue/Amber Racing, DOT-4.

Morning all. Thanks for the heads up.Must say i was a little surprised when i realised she`s got the e/w motor. Olds did that years ago & i don`t think it went down too well with fans. But this ain`t no 455 big block so i guess i`ll find little quirks as i go along. Mind you i don`t want to find too many. None would be ideal, but it`s not that sort of world we live in. Well it`s a rainy day (downunder) in what is our Oct long week-end so best make time & check the old girl over some more. Thanks again.
