Default 140,000 Mile Maintenance

My Volvo 850r 1997 is rounding the 140,000. I know its time for a water pump and timing belt replacement. And cap and rotor with new spark plugs. Does anyone else have any suggestions ?

Has anyone ordered this ?

Volvo Timing Belt Kit and Water Pump Kit (Comprehensive) OEM Parts TBKIT270WP-OEM | FCP Euro

Volvo Tune Up Kit (Turbo) OEM VOLTUNEUPKIT2 | FCP Euro

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Everything that has NOT been done in the past 140,000 miles, including CHANGING the PCV.
1993 - 1997 - 10,000 Mile Maintenance Service

Do you know if the fuel filter has been changed?

I would not replace the water pump unless it leaks.

when l decided to perform a tuneup on my 97 850 R, l saved alot getting them seperate from different websites than getting them in SET. got most parts from Amazon and spark plugs from IPD all OEM and save almost like $50. when it comes to replacing the timing belt, l would get the SET.l think it is easier and cheaper that way. you might as well get them separate because some parts might not need replacing and save you some $$$

The OEM water pump will usually leak before it fails. To know if it leaks, look behind the passenger side front wheel, you will usually be able to see the coolant leaking from the bottom of the timing belt cover. You can also remove the timing belt cover and look at the bottom rear edge and see coolant. When mine was leaking, I could see it on the ground. It leaked for about 5 months before I replaced it.

When doing the timing belt, I usually have all parts on hand (except for water pump). If a part needs to be replaced I do it, if not, I save the part till next time. When next time comes, if the part needs replaced, I have the part on hand. I only do that because I usually put a lot of miles on my cars and can easily put 30,000 miles on it in a year. In just 2 or 3 years it's time for another belt.

I personally believe that a belt can go 100,000 miles easy if you put those miles on it within 4 years.

Hey, if anyone ever needs the tool to lock the cam shaft gears on a Volvo 5-cyl while doing a timing belt job, I found a cheap solution at this web address. VolvoPartsPlus -

Thank you guys I really appreciate all the support and great information. Other than the timing does anyone have any suggestions ? Also is it worth upgrading the intake to an open air box instead of replacing the air filter ? Im looking for small affordable upgrades to add to the performance of the car.

No. But do it if you want to. If you want more power upgrade the ECU with an ARD or something, do that cat back, look at the stage 1, 2, and 3 performance upgrades.
