1994 850 Brake repair in progress, Loosened caliper brake fluid leaking out???
Guys,
Need a little help. My 1994 850 needs new brake pads in the rear. So i bought some and I took the out side half of the caliper off on the rear (4 bolts) and brake fluid was leaking out between the caliper... this is not normal? I have done brakes in the past but never did fluid leak on the ground. Any ideas...brakes are spongy as hell now...Plus is the inside half of the caliper just held on by 2 bolts because I couldn't get it off?
Thanks in advance...

You need to bleed the system.
All you needed to do to replace the pads was pull the pins and push the piston back in and install new pads.

There is pins that go through the brake pads. All you need to do it tap them out and then back in after installing the new pads. The pins go over the Cross looking spring between the pads.
If your brakes are spongy, you have air in the system. As tech said, you need to bleed the brakes.
Also, our cars use Dot-4 not Dot-3 brake fluid.

Alright guys,
Thanks,
I understand the spring part...now...to bleed the system just loosen the bleeder valve on top of the caliper. and tell the person in the car to push the brake pedal down about 3/4. then keep it there tighten the bleeder valve and repeat...

Or you can have them pump the pedal about 5 times and hold it down then open the bleeder and have them tell you when it hits the floor then you tighten the bleeder.
You are saying, pump the pedal 5 times about...hold it at the floor...then the guy at the back right bleeder screw open it, the pedal should sink(keep it there) tighten the bleeder screw
Please clarify thank you
Please clarify thank you
Yes after pumping up about 5 times the pedal should be pretty firm and when teh bleeder is opened the pedal will sink to the floor.
