This is my first post here and I知 happy to be here. I just bought this 94 850 turbo and I知 hearing this ticking noise whenever I知 idling. It usually comes and goes, by the time my car is warmed up it goes away completely. It sounds like a lifter, but I just wanted to ask to be sure. What do you guys think?

 

Your engine has hydraulic lifters - and they can stick sometimes and make a noise.

I would commonly see lifter noise in cars that had "mild" drivers who mainly drive in city stop and go traffic. The kind of driver who never see 4000 rpms on the tachometer.

The solution - after an oil change if the lifters were noisy - we would drive the cars around the block in 2nd gear keeping the rpms up - that normally quietened the lifters (by "pumping" them up I assume)
