Default 1995 850 - dtc 323 - lock-up slips or is not engaged

Ok guys, first post here, and I have searched for a solution, but haven't found moch.

Background: This is my wifes 1995 850 (non-turbo), and it has well over 100K on it (don't know the actual mileage, as the odometer has frozoen up [need to replace that little gear in the instrument panel])

The car was in a slight accident about 6 months ago, and we were able to get it repaired.

A couple of days ago, the flashing yellow arrow came on, along with the "Econ/Sport" button is blinking back and forth.

Doing the DTC test on A1, I got 323 - LOCK-UP SLIPS OR IS NOT ENGAGED. According to Volvo "If transmission has a mechanical malfunction and DTC 323 is reset, replace transmission"

Well... I can't just pull a new tranny out of my rear end. I was just wondering if anyone else here had this code, and if it is something common, or am I looking at something more sinister.

Also the "shiftlock overide" is not working. I can move the stick without having to press the shifter button. So I dunno if that has anyithng to do with it.

Also.. part of repairing the car meant replacing the door, which currently has a different lock that the rest of the system. I need to put the old lock mechanism on there.

The car seems to be driving smooth, there might be a little slipping, but nothing to major.

Thanks in advance

I did the clearing procedure for the code.. and as soon as it was done, I heard something "click" with the key in Start Position II (2)

The flashing up arrow has stopped, but I am still getting a constantly flashing Service light.

Will keep you posted.

Ok.. something weird happened.

I was driving my wife to her Doctor appt.. and the flashing arrow came back on.

We stopped off at her parents place for a few minutes.. when we get back in the car..the arrow was gone again.

So what the hell could this mean?

Any possible chance you accidently put it in 3rd instead of drive? Probably not since I dont believe it flashes, it just comes on.
