1995 850 turbo 5 cyl Electrical warnings
just to post some info about alternator wiring and battery wiring oem battery cables,
It seems after 20 years old the battery cables made by Volvo are crimped and over time become high resistance connections. First you start having problems with alternator so you think and really the problems are all the crimped battery cables, the resistance gets so high from corrosion you cant see inside crimp connections that you will lose almost 3 volts to the battery, yes alt. puts out 14.4 or less but only 11.8 gets to the battery. I put a jumper from alt + output directly to battery and bam battery gets voltage. so I was checking the line from alt. to battery at starter and seen all the voltage drpping before the battery Pos. terminal. This drove me up atree for awhile as people using the trunk pushing stuff in and out turn on the trunk light unknowingly draining the battery, I DID CHANGE THE ALT. AND that did not do any good because I took volts readings at battery. I had to rip off srink rap from battery cable no corrosion but big voltage drop at copper wire and battery cable clamp. crimped it with a pair of vise grips and got a big improvement. every where I checked a crimpe connector to copper wire at a min. .3 to .5 voltage loss So big warning before you pull all your hair out check all these crimp connectors first before you point fingers at the battery and alt.
