Volvo 850 Made from 1993 to 1997, this Volvo line was available in both a wagon and a sedan, both with were graced with several trim levels.

1996 volvo 850 rear alignment???

Default 1996 volvo 850 rear alignment???

Hello all,

I am having trouble figuring out what is causing the rear wheels of my 96 850 to lean inward (negative camber). The service manual I have only says to check the trailing arm for damage if the rear camber is off(no visible damge found). Does anyone know what else this could possibly be? I am hoping this is a common problem with 850's although I could not find an old thread with a solution to this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what could be causing the camber issue but as far as I know, you can adjust the alignment for the rear wheels. You may need to take it to a good alignment shop to have it done correctly.

Never had this with my 96 Volvo 850 but with the front wheels. I'd take it to a reliable tire alignment shop for advice and alignment. First; however I would call to be sure they have the proper digital alignment equipment to work on your model. I was told by a major tire dealer, he could not align a 96 volvo 850. Alignment is about $60.

Was there ever any resolve to this? I too have negative rear camber, with no obvious signs of damage. I can only assume someone pulled a trailer with a really high tongue weight and bent something. Both sides are the same.

I have the same problem only with one back wheel. From looking at these forums i see alot of the same problems I have. Interesting.

I think in Kenm.10's case it was bad springs. That is the likely cause because as the springs weaken they allow the body to sag down. Or easier way to think of it is they allow the control arms to come closer to the body. Since they pivot at a "point", as they get closer to the body the wheel tips in at the top and out at the bottom.

There are some wear parts that can cause it but the springs are the most common problem.
