I'm looking to buy a 1997 850 and the seller says it's a Turbo GLT, I didn't see anything on the outside ( turbo, GLT, R, T5 ) of the car that indicates it has a turbo, I did see a tubo boost gauge mounted on the a-pillar. Any help about external markings, vin ID or anything else would be appreciated. I'll post the features and price, let me know what you think.

10th position of VIN indicates model year...
S - 1995
T - 1996
V - 1997
W - 1998

5th and 6th position of VIN indicated engine code...
53 - MY98 S70 T5 with turbo
55 - MY92-97 850 with DOHC 2.4L I5 with no turbo
56 - MY97 850 GLT with DOHC 2.4L I5 with small turbo at 6 psi
57 - MY92-97 850 Turbo with DOHC 2.3L I5 with large turbo at 9.5 psi
58 - MY95-97 850 R with DOHC 2.3L I5 with large turbo at 9.5 psi plus

 

You can also look under the hood.Find the Air filter box and see where the hose goes to.Non turbo will go to the engine.The turbo will go to near the radiator.
