Default 1997 850 wagon awd rear shocks

Hi folks
i have one of these rare birds and I think its time for some rear shocks. I did a check and they seem real pricey ($450.00 ++ each !! aftermarket). Any acceptable alternatives out there. I'm up in Canada of course.

Does your car have regular shocks or the Nivomats? Nivomats are adjustable/load bearing and rare, so they are expensive to replace. There are some kits or procedures to swap out the Nivomats for stock springs/shocks - try googling on "nivomat conversion". FYI, FCPEURO sells the OEM for $320 US each (I had to look under a 98 V70 AWD - I don't think the 850 AWD came to the US in 97)

I don't think they are Nivomats as I don't see any adjustments.

sorry for the confusion - there's no adjustments - I was referring to the self leveling feature. The thing about Nivomats is that they are shock and spring in one unit - which explains the $$$

On second thought I think they are nivomat and they self adjust I guess.
What would be a suitable replacement and I really don't like the idea of having to shell out $500 CDN for each shock.

Actually they seem to be working fine, not leaking or anything but the rubber boot is all shot on both sides. Generally when i see something like that i replace, but judging by the cost maybe i should wait until they fail?

I did find a web site that sells just the boots for the Nivomats used on BMW motorcycles for $50 US. You may be able to search and find a similar part for your car...
