Default 2nd Volvo 850 running like a champ...

Thanks to everyone here...those that have followed know...

I started by purchasing a 94 - 850 for $300...added a headliner, and cleaned it up. did the basic tuneup stuff, got it running but found I needed an IACV to make it idle right. Found a car about 80 miles from me that needed a motor She wanted 400 for the car, so I called the lady and asked if I could purchase the IACV from her for $50, She said 'sure'. So, I go up and take the IACV off it and thought wow that car is in good shape.

So, I get mine running perfect. Starts and runs like a champ...then I think what if. So I call her and offer her $350 for it, knowing it had a busted timing belt. I priced the motor knowing I could get a replacement motor for $500 if I needed it. So, I get the car towed home and pull the head and do some basic cleaning etc... Saw I had 16 bent valves. so I priced out the valves, guides etc...$480...

I find another that the guys says has a blown head...My son and I go up and take a look at it, and no sign of a blown head...the guy wants $400 I offer him $220 we settle on $300 (after I hear it run). Keepin track...(my third volvo...LOL!!!), So we pour some coolant and the guys says I'd better have it towed home. I let it warm up and keept looking...no leak...temp is going to the normal range...so I drive it home ~75 miles. and do over 60MPH. Doubt it was the head...so I begin the rip down process stripping the head and any valuable or potentially valuable parts. And a couple requested parts...and the heated seats for my car which did not come with them.

So, I do the cleanup of the head, check it for trueness, and clean the combustion chambers. Put the head on my car and clean every piece along the way. Tonight I fired it up for a few mins without coolant, and it started instantly and ran smoothly. So, now I have to add the coolant, do some seat repairs, and this one is good to go...then my 3rd one goes to the scrapper...

So, to make a long story longer...I have a total of around $800 invested in 2 perfectly running rust free volvos, because I will get $200 for the scrap car, and around $200 for parts...And I am saving $75 per month on my insurance by not driving my BMW during the winter months...

So, thanks to Tech, JPN and all the other that have made it possible...you guys are the best...I owe you guys a couple DIY"s and I will. Soon...I promise. The heated seats, and painting the black trim that runs the length of the sedan from the winshield back...at least those are my plans...

A super effort, for sure. Did you save the parts for me that we discussed? If so, have you had a chance to get a shipping quote? I'm looking forward to receiving them.

Thanks,

JimBee
