Is 8 volts right for red wire on brake switch
I cannot get any of my brake lights to work on a 97 850. I switched the brake switch thinking this was the culprit but it was not. I am getting 8 volts to the red wire going into the switch. Does this sound right and is there anywhere else to look for the problem? The bulb warning light is not on and the bulbs and fuses check out fine. I am at a loss!
Help???
Thanks,
Rob

ick if you have 8V there loks like you got some wiring issues.... you're gonna have to trace all the wiring in that curcuit and look for a bad/chafed wire or a bad wire connector.

My bad, must not have had a good ground for the voltmeter. Getting 11 to 12 volts now and 12 at the rear plugs to the light housings. Problem with lights is solved now with a good housing cleaning and some snooping of the metal contacts on the third (cneter) light.

I wondered about that. Use it religously on plug wires and even on the contact points in the dist cap and on the rotor button. It will not hurt the contacts on the bulb housing will it? Just a light film I guess?
Thanks,
Rob
PS- Man, it is a relief to have that fixed. There is a mechanic somewhere who pulled that bulb out lamp that I would like to go a few rounds with. The downside of buying used. You get to decipher everyone else's shortcuts. [:'(]
