Default 850 Blower Constantly Runs/Climate Ctrl DOA

Searches turned up related threads but not what I'm dealing with apparently.

1st the fan speed was all over the place and the AC and REC. orange lights were flashing. After a few minutes of that, both lights extinguished (regardless of rocker position), and the climate controls had no affect on anything. The blower just did it's thing full blast and continues that way. I've removed the fuse for now. Nobody convenient could pull the code so based on vendor and local mechanic's feedback on symptoms I ordered 9134932. Never able to confirm the culprit.

Just installed the new 9134932 Volvo Blower Motor Resistor with Climate Control. That didn't do anything.

There's a blue relay next to where the resistor - might that be the issue?

Is there another component in there I'm missing?

What year is your car?

Was the new resister installed the same as the one removed? That is usually the issue.

I believe the relay you seek is in the fuse panel under that cover. It may be labeled 5 or J and you can usually swap it with the one next to it.

96 Turbo. The part # is the same as what was previously in. There's a relay right next to the resistor deep in the dash area - it's about 2/3 size of a 'normal' relay.

ETA: just tested the relay under 12V and confirmed w.a multimeter; got the click and further tested and got 0.0ohms so the relay is good.

So what the hell is wrong w.my system/what am I missing?! I even tried swapping one of the J relays from under the hood and no joy.

The blue relay controls the A/C compressor. The resistor which you replaced regulates the speed of the fan. The resistor is controlled by the ECC unit. The fan has permanent +12V.
The blinking lights from the control unit signals that there are errors. You can make an self diagnose box (look at the pic). With it you can get the errors and also delete them.

If replacing the resistor did not resolve the problem I think the culprit is the control unit, BUT I STRONGLY ADVICE TO READ OFF THE ERORRS FIRST!

Changing parts on hunches is an expensive business..
