Default Must odor in A/C when turned on

I have a bad musty odor that comes from the A/C when first turned on. It seems to lessen after it has been running. My mechanic says it is a frequent problem that is due to fungus on the evaporator. He said that a spray is made just for this problem and that it should be sprayed on the evaporator. The problem I am having is getting to the evaporator to spry it. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Thanks

A common problem and to really get at the evaporator means taking out the dash - strange place to put it!

I remove a couple of the vents and spray Febreze or similar into the ducts. That usually holds the smell at bay for a couple of months but unfortunately does not remove the cause which is the mould on the fins.

Go to WWW.Airsept.com

They make the product to do this and it comes in a kit. Mazda, GM, Ford and Mitsubishi are OEM providers of the product so they have the special nozzle to get to the evaporator to do this. Get the product and go to a dealership and ask them to apply it.
